We're in the process of contracting with WestEd's Program for Infant-Toddler Care (PITC) for 12 hours of training. You can go to their website, www.pitc.org for more information on what they offer. We're going with Module III.

PITC usually works with caregivers, but will be adapting Module III to meet our needs, and the trainer will be coming directly to our library. Barbara Best is our contact/trainer; her email is bbest@wested.org. For $2,000, we will receive 12 hours of training for up to 20 people. The fee includes travel costs for the trainer.

Betsy Diamant-Cohen's "Mother Goose on the Loose" training was the most transformational workshop for our staff at the San Francisco Public Library. In December 2006, Betsy presented a three-hour hands-on training which included a sample program, recent research on school readiness and time for reflection. One of our veteran children's librarian said it best, "I integrated the Mother Goose on the Loose material into my lapsits because it's simply more engaging." Every branch also has the MGOL binder published by Neal Schulman is a great resource for any library. Her email is betsydc@gmail.com

Christy Estrovitz, Early Literacy Specialist, San Francisco Public Library

The Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California's 2008 Institute is on a topic that is very near and dear to our ELF hearts: Baby Bounces: Books and Music for the Very Young featuring Rosemary Wells, Hap Palmer, Virginia Walter & Ashley Wolff. The institute will be on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 9:30-3:30 at the San Francisco Public Library's Koret Auditorium.
